What are Bed Bug Symptoms?

The obvious bed bug symptom is to see them in your bedding material.  Adult bed bugs are about 1/4 in long and are reddish brown in color, with oval flattened bodies.  Immature bed bugs resemble the adults, only smaller.  They can hide in the seams and the crevices of the mattress.  You need to look very closely.

Other bed bug symptoms include seeing brown spots on your mattresses.  The brown spots are fecal mater from the blood meal that the feed on.  However, it’s not always easy to find them.  Bed bugs often hide in cracks and crevices near to the bed and sometimes not in the bed itself.  They only come out at night.  They can be very hard to find by visual inspection.  In fact, visual inspection for bed bugs only has a 35% accuracy rate, even by experts.

You can look other bed bug symptoms on your skin.  If you find groups of small bloody bites.  They are itchy tiny bites. This could indicate the presence of bed bugs.

While many people try and determine if bed bug symptoms exist to determine the presence of bed bugs.  This method is highly inaccurate.  Currently, one of the best ways to inspect for bed bugs is to use a bed bug dog (k9 bed bug inspections).  Bed bug dogs, depending on the environment, have been show to be up almost 100% effective in detecting bed bugs.  Bugs emit pheromones that the dogs can detect.  Not all dogs are bed bug dogs.  Dogs have to be highly trained in order to properly conduct bed bug inspections.
